1) What form of medium (music, art or literature ) allows you to best connect with Jesus and Why

2) Why has Jesus been portrayed in so many different ways throughout history?

3) How is Jesus portrayed at Parramatta Marist?

4) What artistic time period do you think best represents your image of Jesus and why?

5) Identify one image of Jesus that appeals to you. What do you like about the representation?

6) What factors currently shape your image of Jesus and why.

Forms of music that would connect me with Jesus would be slow calm music genres like reggae, RnB and some types of rock. Art that wouold do the same would be simple works which are based on God or Jesus. Jesus has been portrayed in many ways through out history because of peoples points of views, and many people dont know what He look like so they imagined what would The Son of God look like. Jesus is portrated a Parramatta Marist in the religion lessons at the school, the masses we attend, the mid-dat prayers, and also the atmosphere the school creates. I have not yet created my image of Jesus but i do think that it would be like those from the Renaissanse period.

Jesus

This is an image that appeals to me because it shows that Jesus was caring, i think that He still is and I that is why I like this image. Factors that shape my image of jesus include His love, His body shape, many images i have seen on the internet and in books and many other things.

1) What words and or images come to mind when you hear the word Jesus.

2) Why might it be important for young people to identify with an image of Jesus?

3) Where in your life do you most associate with images of Jesus?

When I hear the word Jesus I think of many things, some of these things are The Bible, Jesus Himself, The cross, God, His pain, history, images of it could have been back then, His disciples and many more. i think it might be important fo young people to identify an image of Jesus so that they know what he looks like, so that their relationship with God can grow and so that they may be able to use their knowledge for the greater good. I associate my life with images of Jesus when I pray, when I am alone and when i am in religion classes.

Select two of the following Bible passages:

:Matthew 12:9-21, Matthew 19:18-28, Mark 10:46-52, Luke 9:51-56,

:Mark 8:22-25, Luke 3:15-23, Jude 1:16-20 Matthew 4:22-24 John 12: 20-35

:John 1:29-32

1. Describe in your own words the message of each Bible passage.

2. How is Jesus portrayed in the chosen passages?

3. Discuss your personal response to the messages portrayed by the passages.

4. From the portrayal draw your own image of Jesus in one of the parables.

Matthew 12:9-21

The message in this Bible passage is to not be lazy. Instead of making excuses for doing good deeds you should do them. It also says that’s even though it was Sabbath day, this does not mean that you don’t do good deeds. A modern example would be not doing anything on your day-off. Jesus is portrayed in this Bible passage as the one person who knows what to do. Also He is shown as the chosen one who will save the world. My personal response to this passage was that it told me an important thing, not to be lazy and make excuses.

Matthew 19:18-28

The message in this Bible passage was to follow the Ten Commandments and to follow Jesus. If you follow Jesus you will enter the kingdom of God. A modern example would be going to church daily or weekly. Jesus in the Bible passage is portrayed as the teacher and preacher as He is telling his disciples what to do and what not to do. My personal response to this passage was to love and follow God and his teachings, as i will be rewarded with the acceptance in His Kingdom.

Matthew 19:18-28 Image of Jesus

The drawing will be handed in separately.

Students are required to choose one artistic time period other than that presented in group activity. Select ONE RELIGIOUS artwork and complete the following:

1. List the title of the image.

2. Name the Artist where possible.

3. Identify features of the artwork significant to the period.

4. Discuss your personal response to the message portrayed by the artwork.

romanesque

The Virgin and Child in Majesty and the Adoration of the Maji’, Romanesque fresco by the Master of Pedret from the apse of the Church of Saint Joan at Tredos, Lleida, Spain, c. 1100

This is an image of The Virgin Mary and Her Child Jesus Christ. This image also shows how the Romanesque art period was like and how they used to paint. Examples of this are shown in the colour of he image, in this period the use of colour was important and they showed this by adding only a few shades and colours. Another feature of this work relating it to the art period is the use of The Virgin Mary and Her Child Jesus Christ in the image, this shows that he artwork was/is in a church and was most probably painted by a Christian artist.

My response to this artwork was that it shows The Virgin Mary and Her Child Jesus Christ, this made me feel good and i thought that this painting was very good. I didnt understand the message portrayed and still do not, without thing this into consideration i liked th artwork and i like works of its type.

1. List TWO problems that could occur from students selecting their own groups.

2. Which type of student do you think would be selected first?

3. Why do you think they were selected first?

4. Which type of student do you was selected last?

5. What beneficial characteristics can you offer to your group?

6. List THREE things you personally would like to improve on during this project.

Two problems that may occur in the students choosing their own groups are that they may only choose friend not thinking that these frinds do not do work, an other problem may be that work may not be done since all the friends keep chatting during the lessons and do not do any work. I think that the first student that would be chosen in the groups would be either a friend or another student who is smart and known to get good grades in their work. Those who dont do work or those who you may not like may be chose towards the last if needed in the group. I can offer my group my artistic skills as i have chosen art as an ellective for yr 9 and 10, i can also offer my group my IST and any other skills needed to finish the work to a hgih standard. I would like to all the work on time and not do things towards the end of the project, I would also like to try to do better in this project then i did in the las, i will finish with i would like to improve IST skill to make the images in this project.

Read the following scenario and answer the questions:

Roger Smith, a quite competent swimmer, is out for a leisurely stroll. During the course of his walk he passes by a deserted pier from which a teenage boy who apparently cannot swim has fallen into the water. The boy is screaming for help. Smith recognizes that there is absolutely no danger to himself if he jumps in to save the boy; he could easily succeed if he tried. Nevertheless, he chooses to ignore the boy’s cries. The water is cold and he is afraid of catching a cold — he doesn’t want to get his good clothes wet either. “Why should I inconvenience myself for this kid,” Smith says to himself, and passes on.1.) There are always TWO sides to a conscience. What would Roger’s conscience be telling him?

Roger Smith’s concience is telling him that saving that child has nothing to do with Rogers life, because of reasons such as catching a cold and getting his cloths wet when if tries to save the boy he would succeed. This is showing that Rogers selfish and wrong conciece is telling him what to do, not his right concience.

2.) Think of an example of Jesus’ teaching and explain how his teachings can help us to make an appropriate decision

A common teaching of Jesus’ is ” love one another as i have loved you” This teaching tells us that if Jeus can love us like he did then we should love all others as well. This also says that Roger should have saved that child in the water as Jesus would have done the same.
